Our Story

SJSMUN began in 2024 with our very first Junior Conference, an ambitious first step shaped by a vision to build a dynamic Model United Nations community at St. Julian’s. Later that year, in December 2024, we held our inaugural flagship edition, the result of immense dedication and groundwork led by our founder, John Reis, whose efforts laid the foundations of what SJSMUN is today.

From those beginnings, SJSMUN quickly grew beyond the school itself. Under the leadership of our Secretary-General, Jinyuan Meng, the conference took an international step forward, welcoming broader participation and expanding its reach, ambition, and identity.

Today, SJSMUN is entering a new chapter. Beyond a conference, we are moving toward building a true ecosystem: one that connects debate, diplomacy, innovation, and year-round initiatives into a lasting platform for student leadership. What began as an idea is becoming a community, and that community is becoming something much larger.

The Diplomacy Hub

The SJSMUN Diplomacy Hub is our digital platform built to support a more modern conference experience, bringing together tools for communication, submissions, and committee engagement in one place. Designed by students for students, it reflects our commitment to innovation in Model United Nations.

Letter from the Secretary General.

Dear Delegates and Esteemed Guests,

It is with immense pride and anticipation that I invite you to the third edition of SJSMUN, a continuation of a legacy that began with the success of our inaugural conference.

What began in our school in 1994 as a modest initiative has blossomed into a vibrant, student-led institution that now proudly hosts its own annual international MUN conference. Following the success of our first edition, we are committed to delivering an experience that surpasses expectations and continues to inspire critical thinking, diplomacy, and global awareness.

This December 3th-5th, we will welcome 350 delegates from high schools around the world to two exceptional venues: the historic campus of St. Julian’s School and the state-of-the-art, newly constructed Nova School of Business and Economics, one of Europe’s top ten business schools.

We are thrilled to invite you to be a part of this conference: a platform where diverse perspectives converge and the next generation of leaders rise. Join us in Lisbon this December, and take your place in shaping the future.
